So I Wait
I walk the shore of the lake
All the time watching the waves lap onto the shore
Rhythmic and simple
They measure time at their own pace
The lake looks so calm and tempting
Straining I look for the other shore
It seems to be a half a world away
Thoughts enter my head
Memories I chased away so many years ago
Life was tougher back then
When I stood on the same shore
Looking at the same lake
I thought about swimming to the middle
And just let everything go
The water would envelop me
My eyes would close and I would go to sleep
The world would have gone on without me
As I watched the waves
My mind wandered into other thoughts
Again I looked at the lake
And a thought, ten simple words, came to me
So I waited
And when I look at the lake and the waves
Those ten words always come back to me
Another day would be a good day for a swim
So I wait
