Snuff It
she sits there
just as faded & yellow
sipping iced tea
& he rakes the yard
all of them yellow
& faded & dead.
they know to end it
before the worst had set in.
they don’t sit in lawnchairs
through november with bronzer spread
& romance novels staring at
old men while they rake leaves
they see the autumn
& they snuff it
this great example right
in front of him &
he rakes leaves
looking for the highest branch
he could jump from.
