Snow Day

Flakes escape the heavens,
intrude upon the silent night.
The world wakes to painted canvas.
Tires spin, no traction,
shovels groan 'neath a burden to
free weary souls from it’s grasp.

I googled Sonoran Desert pics. While there are pics of some awesome sunsets, the ground has no appeal for me. Mom lived in Arizona for some yrs, and while I appreciated the nature, it wasn't my thing either. Your poem aptly sums up the gray of white snow morns that are even grayer if one has to get to work. I'm in Florida now and not missing winter a bit, but Spring & Fall, yes, I miss. Cal has a diff nature for every taste, doesn't it? Enjoyed the read, Ron. CayCay

Hi CayCay! One thing I love about living in Arizona is that, any type of climate or landscape that can be found in the lower 48 states, can be found in Arizona. Canyons, mountains, deserts, lush river valleys, quaint mountain towns, anything you desire is here. This poem however, was written from memories of getting out of school for snow when I was a kid in the Ozarks. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Hi Darlene, I don't miss the nasty winter days. They were fun when I was in school and got the day off! Where I live, in the Sonoran Desert, all the snow I could want, even skiing if I were so inclined, is just ninety minutes away. But here a cold day is in the sixties. LOL Have a great week! Ron
