Snow
A blanket of morning snow engulfed the town
like a luminous south sea pearl
stretched out
mirroring its watery home,
as the villagers slept,
tight in the warmth of the mattress
that creaked like an ancient schooner,
and they awoke to see with faceless dreams
that winter within themselves,
kindled by December lights.
