I know I am her favorite flower;
I shoot up in a spike of yellow bloom
to snatch her attention away
from all other flowers
at home in this small garden patch.
...but the Gladiolus is coming
with spikes much bolder than mine
and I shall wither away in the shadow
of its glorious blooms,
dropping
seed
for
another
spring
day.
