Smile

That look
The lock
She couldn’t
Filled with sadness
Filled with fear
I could see it
I could feel it
The need to scream
To express
To say
The wandering gaze
The smile
The silence
What to say to make it better

A hug was the best
I could think of
The tremble in speak was heard
For I knew not to ask
For I knew the feeling well
It was my companion
Still is
I knew it was coming
We knew.
3 years
How little in ones lifetime
Yet a lifetime in ones memory
