Notes About The Poem

My mom would love this photo. Her favorite flower the Texas Bluebonnet. Plus part of an old tractor like they had on the farm she was raised on.

reminds me of the way milk was delivered to our door daily while growing up in Trieste, Italy by Dr Photog via Flickr

Roadside mailbox

- Small Children's Feet -

People are struggling to live
Farms with green grass roof
An old-fashioned mower
The daylight set the time
Milk bucket on ramps
Potatoes and fish four days a week
Maybe you're thinking :
Charming and maybe a little rusty
But : I remember the simplicity

Longing and nostalgia
My happy childhood
As a balm for the soul
A place I danced barefoot
The old memories make me both sad,
humble and happy
So strange ...
it feels like yesterday

Days that collect dust
But before we know it
it's old memories
I feel privileged
and enjoy the taste of a bygone era
By following the tracks back
On the narrow gravel road
Today another era ~ the circle is closed

Ahh such a lovely poem with beautiful memories, this is what life is, making good and bad memories, before you can enjoy a moment it has long become a part of the past, and life never cease to amaze us, one moment you are a child, next moment you remember that it s only a memory, somethig which has happens many years before and perhaps will never happen again, memories, that s what life is full of, good luck and a really nice poem to read

What lovely memories to have . As a country girl myself, I often long for the day when life seemed less chaotic and things were valued for their simplicity. Beautiful sentiment in your poem :)

So touching. So moving. And, interestingly I hope, it applies to any and all past lives, be they in a rural or urban area---it matters not. Revisiting the haunts of our youth blends the nostalgic with the rustic with the --yes!--simplicity of a bygone era. Professional poetry here, Anne-Lise. Bravo! :) gw

Your poem draws me to just sit and ponder and remember. My neighbor uses an old-fashioned push mower. She's young, so I can imagine they are "green" minded.
