Slumber Walk
Floating garden sparkle dust
Sprinkled haze and tree root rust
Lightning bugs streak through the air
Green iridescent wisps to bare
Bull frog caucus ‘round the pond
On tonight’s meeting? The bull frog song.
Evening dew on lily flowers
Soak into velvet through midnight hours
While we sleep our visions astound us
confuse and confound us
twirl us in circles
We’re none the wiser as night bristles around us
in reach, but beyond us
too still to disturb us
Solid sleeping bed to dream
Crackled thoughts burst forth their seams
Holding on to air that’s thin
which used to hold our imagination
Out the door we walk in slumber
through the fireflies without number
Past the bull frog’s reverie
Slip into nature to be set free.
