Slumber

Slumber

I went to bed
when my child was one.
I awoke to find
she was six.

I am in a dream,
I thought.

I fell asleep
with a six year old
on my lap.
I awoke,
she was twelve.

I will try not to sleep..

But I took a nap
In the noon day sun
while a twelve year
 old played
I awoke to find
her twenty.

I lay in bed,
afraid to sleep.
But it's too late,
she is gone.
