Notes About The Poem

Slow Sink

Two minds, threads
Stitches of doubt, distrust
Suspicions growing and questions
Rising in the minds, two
Who know that love can be
More about disillusionment and fantasy
Than anything resembling happiness,
Anything that might lead
To some form of intimacy…

Just lust, it feels like mistrust
Rising in the mind who can see
Beyond the spontaneity
Of a quiet note from hereditary
Feelings, dreams
The parts of you and me
Once we thought were meant to be,
Yet we see….

In this sea of make believe
Artificial sensitivities,
A semblance of what was meant to free,
Tying our hearts into a sense of grief,
The intimacy that weaves
Threads of darkest shadows,
Those doubts that say to you and me,
Nothing here is as it should be,
We’re involved in an uncertainty
Feelings broken apart by the hesitant
Fears, tears, years of cold
Winter’s truth awakened in grief,
The sense of detachment, the void
Emptying you of what was meant to be,
Emptying me of the hopes and dreams,
Setting out to silence the love
That once believed,
Love that changed to doubt and grief,
Love that revealed what is meant
By the slow sink,

From intimacy
To fear and grief,
The feelings, broken
By the vast expanse
Separation from yesterday
And the land, aloof
A space between what we dreamed
The sinking feeling
Broken apart by need,
Wound together by threads of greed
For what we dreamed
And what we esteemed would be
When we denied the truth that screamed
Listen to the sweetness
Of a love that sees
Beyond the vast expanse,
The sea of disillusionment, pride
Listen to the trembling words
Humility… never heard
What was meant to be, changed
From you and me,
To that sea, I see….

A slow sink, from what was free
To this prison of fear
And uncertainty… the jealous ache
Of a hope that bleeds
Silent chills of exposed disease,
The cure can only be
Found by a heart who sincerely believes
In what love is.. what love sees
Beyond this quicksand of doubt that needs
To bring the heart a hard, wall of doubt
Tears that never see….
Beyond the feeling broken by greed
Pride of life, pride that needs
To tell the spirit just what to believe
And that believing… is never believed
Believing is, indeed, a failure to agree
With the uncertainty between you and me,
The slow sink of disinterested grief,
Grief that comes to the heart who sees
Beyond the slow sink,
Is grief that will never leave
Grief that seeks to continue to breed
With jealousy, fear and all that God sees
When He sees the love never meant to deceive
The love that leaves… when two hearts
Believe in the ways that mean
They refuse to believe… taking that step
Into the quicksand of cynicism,
Wariness and mistrust that never leaves,
The darkness of a world that seeks
To slowly sink into disbelief
And familiarity with a despair that never allows
Love to live… it’s a killer of light
And gives the heart the darkest spite
A unending night,
Never ending fight
Between love and fear
So the answer is clear
Never allow the doubt to overwhelm
What was meant to be
When God made His plans
