Slippery Seeds
A packet of seeds arrived one day they were
like small yellow beads
I shook the packet to make my little daughter smile
the packet slipped and strewn in my backyard.
We went inside as it grew dark
I heard a howl and then a growl and now certainly a bark
I peeped out of my kitchen window, miniature
creatures were popping out of seeds.
From the corner of my eye I could see the King
of the jungle was chilling with his lot.
The wolf was looking at the moon and howling out of tune.
The deer and antelope were grazing peacefully
The monkeys were busy eating bananas and had
left none on the tree.
The bears were scoring with my pears and one
was carried now by three.
Midnight struck and all grew quiet in my back yard
I sealed the door and went to bed uneasy.
When I awoke it was morn’, all the animals were gone
the yellow husk was the only thing left for me.
