Notes About The Poem

Slinky Spirals

A helical "Slinky" type coil
Compresses or springs without toil,
It’s spiral at times,
Or stretched to the nines...
Like worms that are happy in soil!

Beneath or on top of the ground,
They stretch, but so often lie wound,
Their tunnels air earth
To make healthy dirt
And seedlings are glad they’re around!

Quite an entertaining write, Sandra! Most unique take on this spring theme...worms! Now a robin might spring down and go for it:) Have a nice day. // paul

I can honestly say that I have never read a poem about worms...until now. Nevertheless, it's great!

Yes, a weird topic for sure!! The contest guidelines offered many definitions of the word "spring" to work with, so I used the helical spring (like a slinky coil) and compare Spring's worms to that! Thanks for the nice comment! Hugs, Sandra

Sandra you have to pick da da DUM or da DUM- there is some leeway at the beginning or end the the line in a limerick - but you should consistently start with the soft sounding syllable- line #1 like a HE li cal MET al SPRING COIL-can be PRESSED or SPRUNG out With out TOIL-this first one is closest to correct -save the second one until after the contest is over it needs more work. YOU ARE getting it! Light & Love

Hi Debbie, thank you for the recommendation which I followed. I thought I had stressed and unstressed syllables down pat, but I guess not!! Hugs, Sandra
