Sleepless Nights

This morning I looked a terrible sight
Why do I get the urge to write at night?
Had this poem running around my head
When I should have been fast asleep instead

Decided to watch a bit of T.V.
Something about a chimpanzee
Couldn’t get settled at all last night
I turned off the T.V. and saw daylight

I’ll not sleep now, I knew for sure
Those twittering birds, please no more
Couldn’t stop yawning, eyes filled with tears
Then I went and got hot ears

So got up and made a cup of tea
And wrote this poem for all to see
Was going to submit this poem, then rest
But I fell asleep at my computer desk.

Well here's the poem now complete
Posted in this contest to compete
There'll be more sleepless nights, don't I know it
It's the dreaded curse of the midnight poet
