Sleeping My Sorrows Away

I can hear myself snoring
then I suddenly wake!
It sounded maybe
something like an earthquake.

Then I lay on my side
slip back into sleep
I hardly dream
it's so very deep.

Maybe I half wake
then comes a flash of dreams
all about death
but nothing is as it seems.

Someone long gone from my life
is in the back yard digging my grave,
but my father won't have it
my broken neck he wants to save!

I hear my puppy dog whining
she wants to go out;
that's about how I feel
and I also want to shout!

I want to reach Heaven
with my voice
even though I know
my deceased had no choice.

The Lord decided
when He'd take them home
just like He knew
I'd write this poem.

Sheila, this nice work started off humorous (snoring waking you because it sounds like an earthquake) but ended on a poignant note. How true the Lord knew you'd "write this poem." He knows all we did and all we will do. Thank you for sharing this excellent poem! Carolyn
