Sleeping In Church

An upper chamber
Of many lights
Held the fellowship
Of disciples.
They broke bread
With a long-winded saint
Ready to depart
On the morrow.
Then a young man
Who sat in a window
Fell asleep
On the third story.
He sunk down low
Deep in his sleep
And fell sideways
From the third loft.
The long-winded preacher
Went down to the man
And fell on him
With an embrace.
He gave them comfort
That the man was alive
And went back up
To eat some bread.
He talked again
For a long time,
Until daybreak,
And then he departed.
They brought the young man
Back up to the gathering
Of many lights
In that upper room.
