Slaughter In the Holy City

Brutal attack on worshippers in an Israeli synagogue The floor was covered in blood After five men met their maker Four rabbis and a brave Druze left this mortal coil A sorrowful day for the Jewish people and their allies When will peace reign, swords beaten into ploughs as the prophet promised? From my vantage point in New York City I read about the events in the Middle East In the frosty New York air I feel saddened Yet rays of lights manage to cut though my darkness Perhaps, just perhaps Peace will eventually reign in the Holy Land

An awesome poem. Any bloodshed whether in a Israeli synagogue, in Mosques in Ghaza, streets of Syria, Iraq, Karachi or Afghanistan is abhorable. The religious fanatics have plagued the Middle Eastern and Far Eastern countries. Poets like you who are writing about them are doing great service for peace in the world. Thanks for visiting my poem and your very kind and educated remarks. I am grateful. Regards. -Mohammad

So sad, I guess I feel to some extent like there are only so many ways for death to come? The world is overpopulated, folks don't want to speak of it- folks don't want to share- everyone insists they know what's right & that there is only 1 right- disease, war, pestilence, famine- but at the very least couldn't man go with less violence? Your poem touched my heart Matthew. I would love to see peace also and pray for it daily.

Your poem reminded me of Paul Wiber's song, Shalom Jerusalem: Pray for peace, Jerusalem, city of our God, / There salvation was poured out for you, the atoning of the Lord. / Once your streets were filled with joy, branches raised up high, / Shouting "Blessed be the Holy One, Y'shuat Adonai" / Shalom, shalom, Jerusalem, peace be to you. / When Messiah comes...
