Six Six Six

Six, six, six on the little fella’s head
Two red eyes and a nanny who was dead
Hands from the ceiling that are reaching for the bed
Priest stands firm with a bible to be read

Branches scrape at windows like the Devil’s teeth and claws
Floorboards heave and buckle, blood is oozing from the floors
Open drawers are slamming shut, the boy laughs like the dead
And daddy shouts I’ve told you once… it’s time to go to bed!

I like the way this develops from a seemingly harmless first line to a bone-chilling Halloween special. Good work, Terry! ~ Gershon

Thanks Gershon. Pretty much symbolizing the temper tantrums of a lad not ready for sleepy byes... I think.

...and I think the kid really sees all of this, or is reading it in a book. So hard to calm down and go to sleep! Good writing, Terry.

Thanks, Milt. In my mind it was all symbolic of a spoilt kid not wanting to go to sleep. But your version works for me. Terry

Thanks, Eve. Need to switch Halloween off now and try something else. Hmmm… two days to go… I’ll do my best. Terry

Well your lines certain set the stage for a creepy scene before Halloween. Good writing, Terry.

Thanks Jenna, wasn’t meant to have a ‘comic’ ending… but that’s how it went, Terry

Funny thing is…Halloween normally drags a poem or two out of me, but this year it seems to have stuck its claws in me… roll on Crimbo! Cheers Tom. Terry
