Sitting at the Kids Table
Years and years ago I used to sit at the kid’s table
My twin sister and I would wash all the dishes
While our cousin who was spoiled stayed with the grownups
Irritating us to the utmost degree
Today I could sit at the old people table
Or the young people table
I choose to sit at the kid’s table
Where I get to hear my grandchildren laugh and kid each other
Sitting at the kid;s table is a privilege now.
A joy, a delight
I love sitting here
Such enthusiasm, so much laughter!
My children have no idea how quickly they will relish the kid table
They sit huddled in adult conversation,
Ignoring the old and the young
The young and I do not care as we make jokes and kid each other.
