Sisters In Arms

From the early days of your inclusion
in the ranks,
marching in formation.
Some of you fighter pilots, clerical,
galley workers, medics, nurses,
doctors, mechanics.
When fear met courage,
some of you died with your
brothers,
a duty of sacrifice,
sisters in arms.

It takes such bravery to sign up-
women in uniform be proud,
labors of the soul and body,
sweat, determination, grit.

When your career peaks,
you’ll carry your legacy wherever
you are,
as you age in grace,
sisters in arms.
Someday buried with your brethren,
the taps will play for all of you,
in the revered resting place of
rolling lawns.
Sisters and brothers in arms.

We march arm-in-arm. Well, maybe not with the fighter pilots. But with all the rest of the sisters mentioned. Bravo.

Dear Gina, I was a soldier once, 3 years active, 6 years reserve, and the way you trace their service feels steady and unforced, just like someone speaking from a place of real regard. I like how the lines carry that weight of lives lived in uniform, work, grit, sacrifice, told without fanfare, making it land even deeper. Thank You and if you also served Thank You! Blessings, Gina, Daniel

My deepest thank you, Daniel, for your military service. I also really appreciate your kind review of my salute to servicewomen. Years ago I was in the Navy for a brief time. I was able to pass the Yeoman 3rd Class Petty Officer exam before I departed. My late husband was in the Navy 8 years. He is interred in the Veterans Cemetery about a half hour from my home. Anyway, thank you again for once being in uniform. All the best to you and your family. ~
