Sing Sweet Song

With a dream I leave you this evening,
A faint kiss to the mind on your cheek placed.
With a memory from sleep you will rise,
A taste of tomorrows promise still awaits.

When the shadows again close over you,
With a whisper, to your room I return.
A moonlight intrusion, uninvited, yet not refused,
Sadly wanted but not recognised to receive.

As you sleep I will pour over you,
I will be as honey over your warm skin.
You will rise to meet my gentle caress,
Forgotten by morning, remembered only in darkness.

Between the sheets as you hide from cruelty,
Remember it is me who comforts sad thought.
When your mind buckles and bends with frustration,
I calm your fever with sweet song.

Yet all this takes place unheeded,
Which is life’s sad cruelty.
Come tomorrow and may bring revelation,
For tonight even I must sleep.
