Silver Seconds
At first we're just oblivious
of the time attached to us
We don't hear that ticking sound
silver seconds counting down
Across tomorrows sacred ground,
silver seconds counting down
jingling 'round the world we dance
with great beginnings in our pants
future generations wait, for our random
acts of fate. children laughing in the stream
of the moments in between, birth and death
infinity, doesn't jibe at twentythree
Then silver seconds on your face
run in lines and take their place
carving smiles year after year
drops of time like silver tears
Etched beneath your knowing eyes
until you notice with surprise
on your head a silver crown
silver seconds counting down.
