Silently the Solitary Figure Stood
Silently the solitary figure stood beneath the streetlight
Waiting for a woman he feared wouldn't show.
Passersby pondered the aura of resignation emanating from the man.
Still he stood, surrounded by shadow,
Hoping against hope he might be wrong.
Looking neither left nor right,
Moving neither forward nor back,
The lonely man stands still as forever
Inwardly wrestling the angel of doubt.
But no one sees the conflict hidden deep within his heart,
And no one knows the story of what happened yesterday.
All they can know is the solitary figure stood beneath the streetlight.
