Silent Night
The piano reverberates hauntingly
the note holds for a instant,
before falling back to nothing,
hanging in the air sad and slothful
as if it was headed someplace
it had really wanted to go
and then it suddenly forgot
where that place might be.
Then just as quickly
as it came
it is gone
lost somewhere to time
and space.
Life is truly fleeting
for a musical note
strummed
or hummed
or hammered
or clanged
they dart from
ear to ear
wall to wall
attempting to transcend
the very laws they are
obligated to obey
and then they fizzle out
like a lonely old man taking his
last breath
alone and full of regret
each
leaving no trace that they had ever
existed at all.
