In the dark, silent night Poetry Contest

This poem is written in strict Shakespearean form, Rhyme Scheme; abab, cdcd, efef, gg w/ 10 syllables per line.

Silence of the Night

When darkness drapes her veil upon the skies,
Silent shadows stretch long across the floor,
I sit alone where hope and stillness lies,
With naught but night to gently bar the door.

The distant stars in hushed radiance keep
Their ancient secrets, far beyond my reach,
While solemn thoughts like tides begin to creep,
Each wave a lesson solitude would teach.

No voice nor footstep stirs the quiet near,
Save for the whisper of my wistful mind;
Within the gloom, I face my private fear,
And in silence, fragments of me I find.

Yet as the night endures, I learn anew
That peace is oft where aloneness is true.

A stirring and beautiful sonnet, Ken. I bet you love doing sonnets as much as I do.

Hi Andrea! Oh yes, sonnets, pantoums and villanelles are my favorite forms of poetry. Thank you very much!

Ken, your words and images are so strong, so carefully crafted, with poetic vitality as your day ends and the angst of it's memories surface. Yet, there is an openness to the birth of peace and new lessons. I really like this poem. Best wishes for the contest. Blessings to you. Nice to meet you.
