Season of death plays her melancholic tune, tragedy portrayed through a chorus of birds. In regret, I ponder why you left so soon, still mourning the impact of your last words. Demons hid some pieces of your jigsaw brain, lost in your black abyss, troubles began to form. Alcohol, drugs and abuse turned your life insane, but your tongue was silent, battling the storm. Sometimes I read the note you left behind, saying you were sorry, but life was not kind. If only I knew a way for time to rewind, maybe I could have eased that troubled mind. Guess you felt death would bring an end to the pain, hope you found peace from a life you left in vane.
Silent One 27 October 2020 I lost a very special friend to suicide, on new years eve 1996. It was not my only experience with suicide, but it was one that had a big impact on my life, because, I was the last person she spoke to. Sadly, I did not get to her in time and she had already departed the world that troubled her so much. At the time, she was only 18. For years, I struggled to come to terms with it, my coping mechanism was to blank it all out, suppress the emotions. But every new years eve, I would not do anything, it was my way of rebelling against it, I guess. I lived with regret. Sad thing was I never spoke to anyone about it. I learned to deal with it through writing. My first poem about what happened was in 2015. Some think suicide is selfish, but it is not. It is difficult for those left behind to deal with it, but we need to understand, people who leave the world in such a way, do not want to die, they want to end the pain. Sometimes, no matter what we do or say, it may not help. Always keep an eye out for family and friends, who you may think are feeling low and at times worthless. Many of us, at times, feel we do not belong. Sometimes, the smallest act of reaching out could make a difference. If you are feeling suicidal, there are helplines available in your country. Please call someone to talk to them. It could make a difference. When we feel confused, oppressed, worthless, low, unloved, live a life without affection and understanding... Please remember there is always someone out there who loves and cares about you and will miss you so much if you are gone. Sorry for the sad poem and thank you for reading.

S.I. I commend you for both the poem and the comment attached to it. I, too, have faced the Demons you describe. And I, too, have been the recipient of the last words of someone who, fortunately, survived their attempt. It is clear that you have touched the hearts of many. From my own experience I would say that what you have written is spot on. Thank you. As you have blessed, so may you be blessed.

I strongly believe in the beauty of humankind.. as we are supposed to live in a harmonious state of interdependence.. giving, caring and sharing.. showing interest and love.. praising, lending a compassionate hand, devoting time.. trying to understand and keep away from being suffocatingly judgmental.. No Man would dare take a life.. Emptiness is killing the souls.. Evil is infecting the minds.. Man lost his way to the path of Faith and Love.. So achingly beautiful, Silent One! Best regards.

It's OK to say suicide is not in the option to escaping distress. The affairs of the world are so overwhelming. People feel mad and insane. The much we do not want to lose our loved ones, the beautiful people who beatified the world, that's the much we should prescribe more love and affection, more caring. It's so sad to lose a friend. Sorry.

I have heard of a few suicides in my life .One young girl in our extended family committed suicide at 15 and then again two years ago, a cousin of ours son, also committed suicide. Terribly sad for the family and I think it takes great courage to commit this act to end your life, certainly not cowardly as some people interpret it. Amazing poem yet very sad, so many people fall victim to suicide. Hugs and Blessings, Jennifer.

Wow...I was moved by the Poem then the story...Thank you for it. If only our mouths could spit out the word on our tongues while we are screaming in our minds. Help, Help! Sadly, silence somtimes comes as the easiest form of expression. Silence hides the teardrops. While on the inside we drown. Suicide seems the easiest way...this way we never let anyone down.. Great write SO. This made thoughts long buried to surface. I was in severe pain from a busted spine in hospital in Singapore. They told me I was going home, back to the life I had tried so hard to escape from. My nurse girlfriend found me with a blade in my hand. had she not turned up in the middle of the night, who knows?

Well said, this reaches deep. Sometimes I think the discipline of a form adds an edge to a poem and yours cuts deeply. And both the photo the epilogue add other dimensions.

Well said in your poem and comment. It is eye-opening. As you said, it is not necessarily a selfish act. Many suffer depression. It takes the young and old. Recently One of my son’s wrestling coaches, who was suffering alone due to covid, took his life. We never forget any of them. There are more that I know too. Sorry for your very deep and emotional loss.

WoW! Silent, First of all I want to say, I’m sorry for your loss and everything you had to go through, to cope with such a lost. I get it, I have had suicidal thoughts in the past, and you are right in what you said in your notes.I didn’t really want to die. I just wanted the pain to stop. I dealt low self esteem too, I thought I was no good and the world would be better with out me in it. Thank God , I don’t feel that way anymore. Suicide is the final outcome, however warnings signs came prior.

"Demons hid some pieces of your jigsaw brain, lost in your black abyss, troubles began to form. Alcohol, drugs and abuse turned your life insane," this is so true; so very very true. The pain must end. That is all they can think about; it truly is. Well done! Well thought out. Well penned Silent One. Well well!

I can't say i know how you feel cause i don't, but sometime i feel like i what to die and i think about what that would do to my love one and that's enough to stop the bad thoughts. Your poem was enough to stop them for good... I thank you and i hope you know that your friends pain was not your fault so don't think that.... Plus she's in a better place now... I DO KNOW what pills and alcohol can do, I'm fourteen and i was took from my parents at the age of four because my parents love them more then they loved me. Me, you and your friend know that alcohol and pills tare up peoples lives and me and you know that not ALL of the pain heals, we just have to learn to deal with it, and i'm so sorry about what happened to you. I know some people don't like it when everybody looks at them with pity but i still say i'm sorry.

Thank you.. I think that it is easy to say faith in God, but there are many who do not believe in religion and I also know many who did have religion, but took their life.. Including a priest...

I lost a good friend when we were 16. No one had any idea that something was wrong. I thought for a long time ''if'' I had paid closer attention. The world can seem a cold place. I think Mr. Rodgers has some good advice'' Look for the helpers. You can always find people who are helping.''

It is a mystery to me why people would even contemplate suicide as so many things could "go wrong" leaving them in a worse state to deal with the problems which they must still face - if not this life, the next! Aloha! Rico

I believe it is all to do with the brain what trauma it may suffer, or having really bad experiences in life... Sadly many suffer from a chemical imbalance.. Guess we can never understand if we have not been there ourselves... Thank you.

I lost a friend to suicide, she was only 36, we worked at the same company and made a good team together. She was beautiful, good company and had so much to live for, we all knew how she was suffering and what brought things on, but no one could get through, sadly she was found by her live in partner, who loved her to bits, one Valentine’s Day many years ago. It’s so sad and I completely understand your feelings. Belle

I have never witnessed someone take their life, nor have I heard any last words from someone before they are about to. It is heartbreaking for another to "take their final breath away" on purpose. Life is Worth the Living. Many have a hard time, because of moments around them. Reaching out to help is all you can do. When you have done that, you know deep inside- you have done all you could possibly do. So sorry about your friend. ~ Brandy

Those words stay with you forever, especially when the person who died was so close to you and saw you as their shoulder to cry on... I guess the experience helped me to understand other people... Thank you
