Shush Did You Hear That
Shush, did you hear that?
it is the wail of terminated babies
the cries of soldiers who did not come home
the tears running down mothers cheeks
Shush, did you hear that?
It is the crushing of a child's spirit
the bruises of a beaten wife
the sigh of falling in love
Shush, did you hear that?
it is the whimper of a hungry child at night,
the giggle of a little girl at tea time
an old man talking to his deceased wife
Shush, did you hear that?
it is the breaking of my heart when you said goodbye
the howl of the old dog when they carried his master away
the desperation of the multitudes clawing for existence
Shush, did you hear that?
it is a father's struggle to feed his family
the slow beep of the ICU monitor
Grandma humming while slowly rocking the baby
Shush, did you hear that?
it is the chilling wind sweeping across the fresh fallen snow
the shooting star on a dark summer night
the breaking of the dawn on a bright new day
Shush, did you hear that?
it is God's spirit telling me of his love
the glorious choirs of angels
and the bells of Heaven that wait for me
