Should You See

If I came this way again
   I would come at midnight
slipping in at the shadow hours
   lingering beneath the slim light
   of the crescent moon;
the light would fade and falter
not daring to ignite the hidden byways
where I could walk silent and unseen
  reminiscing of my prior life
cut short by the loss of love.
I am here now
alone and weeping in the darkness
alone, cold and chilled by wind gusts
  racing with an ominous whispering
that dance a macabre waltz in the night.
Should you look out and see me,
say nothing only watch and ponder
as my specter slips into deeper shadows,
I am but a remnant ghost of my past
never to return as I was.
