Shopping For Memories
Christmas thoughts soften my eyes
Memories crowd in
Pocketing a gift list
I go out to warm the car
There’s a crown roast out there waiting
Brandy for plum pudding
And ginger in a jar
We’ll stop for lunch then go on
Shopping slow with joy
Picking stocking fillers
In furtive hidden moves
Hoping that the chocolate doesn’t melt
And buying another longer leather belt
Gifting is as testing
As learning how play
Inside the rules of pleasure
In the game of life today
But watching eyes light up with joy
Is a memory to stay
