Shining Eyes In the Dark

Beware of the shining eyes in the dark; Dreaming by day, at night it never sleeps. Its sharp claws dig in deep, leaving their mark Upon every soft object while it creeps. Walking down the hallway silent and slow; Keeping its sight on the floor as it glides Swiftly down the stairs, while watching below. Behind a chair, it retires and hides; On the prowl, it moves its head as it turns, And thanks the fates for all nine of its lives. It spots a rodent, and its hunger burns; There’s no escape from how quickly it dives. The mouse that had once roamed free is now gone, And the cat enjoys its feast until dawn. © 2012
