Shifting Relentless Time

(FICTION, PLEASE. It is easy for me to write in the first person, but nearly all my poems are fiction. Please don't attribute this poem to me. I loved my wife to distraction. For ten years she was sick and I cared for her like a baby. My only regret is that the ambulance which took her away would not allow me to be driven with her. I knew she would die and she would have wanted me near her despite her dementia. We were lovers. I don't know where I got this old poem of mine, but it is still fiction.) Shifting relentless time, sand in hourglass trickles slowly towards its final hour. Pretending I care not, I bask in the sun, enjoy mellow breezes, I wait; the end will come. The sky is clear, my mind is not, in truth I am distraught, echoes of a distant past ripple through my futile thoughts reminding me of your last visit. Now you stir in your desolate grave. My listless life is at a crossroads. I hover in a vicious vacuum, remember all the senseless shame, slide after seamy slide recalled, all your wants and needs which I demonically and cruelly denied despite the reparable ways, you made my fantasies would not come true. Now it is too late. Frustrations tear my sinful soul, I lie bound in a wicked web, I'll drink my teacup of remorse tomorrow is another curious chance: I pray for spiritual rebirth.

Dear Victor, this is a wistful fictional write, we all have sadness and regrets throughout our lives, it’s all part of being human. As long as we realise and make things better we can find peace of heart and mind. Beryl

A poem of regret and remorse. What is done cannot be undone. Still feeling sorry for what was denied to a deserving person in itself is redeeming! The intensity of feelings expressed in this poem penetrates deep into the heart. Your notes about your dear wife's final days are so touching and shows how concerned you were for her.

I see many people in this poem, acquaintances and loved ones. Poems about those who take, rather than give, is a realistic look at the whole picture. A World Order will never exist. Some will grab the best things. I always like your poetry. Sending hugs.

What a poignant and profound write this is dear victor! I absolutely love this! And the flow of this is beyond impeccable! Firstly, i must say you are such a wonderful husband to have taken care of your wife that had dementia, must have been emotionally and physically so challenging for you. Im sorry that you had to go through that. Secondly this fictional poem , which gives a very introspective touch is so moving! I loved” I lie bound in a wicked web, I'll drink my teacup of remorse” FAVE

Even though its fiction, the love of your wife will always shine through dear Victor. A deeply poignant poem. As you reflect on her past situation, you may recall how her life was at a crossroads, leaving her in a state of uncertainty. While you may feel that her wants and needs were unjustly denied, it's important to remember that she may have a different perspective from above. It's unfortunate that circumstances prevented you from accompanying her in the ambulance. Love and hugs

Hi Victor, "tomorrow is another curious chance", I appreciate your clarifying this as fiction. I am so sorry for what you must have endured losing your dear wife to dementia. There is a very sweet woman across the hall in our condo suffering with dementia. A friend and I accidentally were locked out briefly the other day and she brought me her tv controller and sweetly told me I could call our maintenance man with it.It is heart breaking to see this condition evolve. Blessings

I wrote a poem about The Weight of Words, how the living, a man, wanted words to be said so much, and how the dying, a woman, was in a coma needed to hear those words so much, neither could be God, except God gave them both the answer they needed. He took her to a place where Earthly words of regret meant nothing. And for him, he'll find the answer, that in the afterlife, words of regret have no weight at all. Aloha, Victor, William
