Shifting

I never drove a stick shift
Although once, I tried to learn.
I think they’re mostly gone now
And I don’t see their return.

A manual transmission
In some sports cars can be found,
Yet there aren’t many models
For the purists still around.

It’s kinda like a TV set
With knobs you have to turn
Instead of a remote or
An Alexa you can spurn.

Improvements make life easier,
But some wish they’d revive
The older methods that were used
To watch TV or drive.

You're talking to someone who learned on a car with no power steering and a 'three-on-the-tree.' (That's a manual shift with only three gears, located on the steering column). Ugh! I'd never go back.

Your "Shifting" was a fun read and nostalgic write. Many year ago, I drove a stick shift.  "Good Luck"  if for a contest. I just wrote, "They Say." I think you will like it. Have a blessed day writing away...............

I remember when tv sets were nice-looking pieces of furniture with attractive, even fancy, woodwork. I used to drive a manual~~don't miss it!! Well-written nostalgic poem, Ilene.

Reading this and then Deb’s comment below is too weird… only this morning, I was telling someone how I discovered my fave comedian in the days when you had to sit by the tv to channel hop… and BAM! there was Jasper Carrot telling his Mole story. Enjoyed your nostalgic write ;-)

So many changes throughout the years...l remember the days you used to have to get up and turn the T.V channels over manually and there was only 4 channels. It would be "can you get up and change the channel ....l did it last time" & "No you didn't , l did" haha!! Your poem took me back Ilene....Great write my friend....Debx
