Shepherd Boy
I was a shepherd boy standing watch in the hills nigh Bethlehem,
Watching over papa's restless flock of ram, ewe and lamb,
When a star more brilliant than any other was suddenly revealed!
I was overwhelmed with peace as its mellow rays lit the field!
I considered this eerie event with ever-growing alarm,
When angels appeared above announcing, "We mean no harm!
We bring you happy tidings and for all of mankind eternal joy!
This night a King is born! In a manger lies that little boy!"
I left the flocks and fled to witness this royal event,
To join in praising God for this gift from Heaven sent!
His mama Mary was so pretty - papa Joseph was so proud,
As they knelt in adoration with heads reverently bowed!
Three majestic seers gave gifts of frankincense, myrrh and gold.
I was humbled as all I could give was a lamb from papa's fold.
This King never wore purple robes or jeweled diadems.
He too became a Shepherd seeking lost and straying lambs!
I heard later that He was an itinerant preacher in Galilee,
Performing all kinds of miracles! He even walked upon the sea!
I was also told that He was mercilessly nailed to a tree.
Something about the redemption of sins for such as you and me!
