Shell Sirens

SHELL SIRENS

In a beach shell held tight near the ear

The wind will wail and fill the sail with fear

From murmurs in muted rhythm

Of ships that shall move no more -

That sank to salty slumber in the sands -

The distant echoes of waves surging over their head:

Sirens urging boats to go where others feared to tread.
