'she Walked Away'

She walked away Hurriedly, Without looking back, Not thinking about What she will be leaving behind Not thinking about The creature comforts No afterthought and no regrets All she could think about Was getting away, As far as possible before He gets back To discover or uncover Another reason why she needs To be his punching bag His reasons always valid Though silly in her eyes But to him, it gave him A reason, It gave him The authority To lift his hand It gave him the right To kick her Abuse her verbally Treat her like she was nothing Until today, Until she found out About the baby She had something else To live for Dying was no longer a Priority….

Beautiful willpower manifested in this poem, Wilma! Sometimes, it takes so much courage to just Walk Away-- I can only imagine the struggle of some women regarding this, and you missy are just so strong as well to give & share that strength and courage with those women- God bless you for that! hugs to you :) & yes! it only took me a couple hundred seconds and not years lol

Your work with abused women has given you keen insight into their struggles, Wilma. It often takes a long time for someone to leave an abusive husband, but when they finally do, they turn to people like you for help in recovery. A baby would bring joy to such a woman's life. Beautiful poem, sweet friend. My admiration for your work just grows and grows. Love, Carolyn
