She Should Have Raised Axe Murderers

She was the kind of mother who should have raised axe murderers and serial killers. Harsh, bitter, angry, with six touches of meanness and a horrible sounding whipping belt that she loved to snap However, she raised two unhappy children who became notoriously successful. After they escaped at eighteen, never to return. Realizing life is different outside the house on Wilmore Drive. Understanding that all people are not bitter, angry, depressed and mentally ill. Their mother’s angry techniques of discipline, inflicted with diabolical glee Was never inflicted upon any of their children, Two girls and three boys who never knew their grandmother or endured parenting skills that rivaled those of Mommy Dearest.

Hello Caren … a sad reflection on society. Children deserve to be loved and given trust and affection otherwise they too may treat their children the same. Thank you Caren - Lindsay

Oh Dear, as much as I hope this is not your story, it is so poignant and heartfelt, I feel it must be. Not all people with a mental illness are cruel. Where was the father..... Why weren't other people made aware of this appalling state of affairs. Your poems show what a caring lovely person you are. Writing poetry is very therapeutic for people that have suffered trauma or bad experiences in their lives. Thank God for the gift to be able to do this. Take care.....Shirley

Thank you Shirley; it is totally my story. I remember having welts up and down my legs from this wonderful belt, and I am sure the scars are still there. For when my mother got ahold of it, she was usually pretty angry, and went crazy with it. It is something that "good Christians" use, thus, sometimes, I have a real problem with the word Christian. I could go on for days about it. Because every child I have ever counseled who COULD NOT STOP being out of control or COULD NOT STOP sobbing or SCREAMING was beaten by a belt. Every single one. EVERY SINGLE one. I will not go here often, but once I am here, I can go nowhere else for the memories are pretty bad.

oh wow, I see you based it on your own story. You are incredible to have changed history and not become that way yourself, dear.

Is this a true story, Caren. It would be incredible to know it could happen this way. So many kids go bad for this kind of parenting. I really like this.

I am so sorry you had to go through that... No child you have to suffer this way.

I have met several children who are enraged. Every single one of them has been whipped with a belt. I keep thinking I will find the exception but so far I never have. What people need to know is that rage hides sadness.

It’s a strange truth you pointed out here Caren, some of the best people I know had terrible parents, it’s like payback for the suffering they went through, never to put their own children or indeed anyone through the same experience, another great poem, keep em coming cheers David

I was inspired by my own experiences, actually. My mother LOVED using the belt on me, and I have never forgotten that. She had a wonderful side too, but that side is something I have never truly forgotten. The saddest children I see today are the ones who are still being beaten by a belt.

Sometimes the best act of defense is run and heal, I did it too, don't feel bad, I am proud of the children I helped raise, God is good and those wounds do eventually heal when we come to realize, they made us who we are, and we would not have been so sensitive and aware if they didn't make us so. I am glad you opened your heart, only a poet like you can do that and make me realize how important we are to each other . Thank you dear friend xo

Thank you so much Pixie Dust. When some feelings cannot be tamped down, they pop onto a page as a poem, and help heal me a little bit. This was one.
