She Came From the Sea
she came from the sea
a determined wanderer
he stood on shore
rooted to earth
she washed over him
filled with highs and lows
his legs were thick trees
unmoving, solid
his chest withstood all
remaining staunch and firm
his immobility angered this female
she attacked him with fury
the depths of his understanding
held him emotionally sound
as her torrent broke over him
scattering in fragments at his feet
covered in her muck
he stooped down
lifting the woman safely
above all turbulence
he cleansed them both in ocean waves
carrying her the whole way
when clean
he righted her
stood back
asking if he could do anything else
she asked for forgiveness
turning for home
he caught an arm gently
inviting her to stay
so began the story
of two opposites cleaving
one to the other
night and day, moon and sun
for the rest of their lives
