She
They never took the time to truly notice her.
She was the girl who was always around
but no one knew
The girl who everyone talked to
but never really cared about
She was the girl who just blended in
They noticed what was on the outside
not what was in
they saw the perfect girl
who knew how to dress
and who played the part
but they didn't know her
nor did they ever care
They didn't notice that
she's battled depression since the age of six
the scars carved deep in her wrist
the ones she always covered
the ones who did notice
pretended like they were just scratches
claw marks at the most
and carried on with their lives
all she wanted was for someone to help
someone to notice her
someone to say they care
but like always
they didn't notice
they didn't care
They didn't notice that
her father has been out of her life
for over half of it and
the half he was there for
she was beaten
told she was worthless
and left for dead
they never cared to ask her about her home life
they just assumed all was fine by the smile she held
the ones who did notice
just laughed it off
never asked if she was okay
never asked if she wanted to talk
all she wanted was a true friend
but like always
they didn't notice
they didn't care
They didn't notice that
her mother
as sweet as she may have seemed
badly a deadly addiction
one that made it seem as though
she had no mother at all
she would lose sleep
night after night
to make sure her mother stayed clean
then go to school with a fake smile
and a low self-esteem.
the ones who noticed
judged her not her mother
they made it out to be
her life the reasoning for
her mothers addiction
all she ever wanted was
for someone to hug
but she never got that
they never noticed
they never cared
They never noticed anything about her
any of the problems she had
or the struggles she faced
the ones who did noticed
played it off as a joke
they never noticed
they never cared
and she decided
she no longer
noticed
she no longer cared
The day came when enough was enough
she was tired of no one noticing
no one caring
she took her last breath
and stepped down from the chair
now that's she's gone
everyone notices
everyone cares
but where was they
when her smile remained
when she was still there to share
Her life was now over
no more sadness
no more pain
she didn't have to worry about
her mothers addiction
or the absence of her father
all of the struggles disappeared
the moment her soul vanished
she now has peace
and now they notice
and care.
