Shattered Pieces

The Golden Rule: treat others
The way you want them to treat you
How beautiful an idea
That won't ever come true

I think because I'd die for you
Then, likewise you'd die for me
But no matter how I am to you
You'll be who you wanna be

I can give you kindness
You'll repay me with malice
Then watch me cry & hurt for you
As you stand aside, calloused

My greatest gift I'll give to you
My heart, safe in a box
That you'll open without hesistance
To crush it with your rocks

And as you walk away from me
I'll pick up the shattered pieces
of my heart, my life--every bit of me
The pain just never ceases
