Shattered Glass and Broken Promises

Shattered glass and broken promises,
reflections of how plans once made
can suddenly become just memories...
Crystal clear and shining hopes
that sparkle in the mind's array
of hopeful dreams and quiet fantasies.

Thoughts of wine sipped by the fire,
the tenderness of spoken words,
the sweet seduction of an eager soul.
Quiet moments, conversations,
assurances that love would last
but wine soon warms and passion can grow cold.

Sullen thoughts, a broken heart,
the sound of silence in the air,
lingering echoes of a closing door.
An overwhelming silence
that is only interrupted
by the shattering of a wine glass on the floor.

I wish I didn't house memories of the feel described in last stanza, but I do, one can barely breathe or even know if they want to. Poetry hugs ... CayCay Login to Reply CayCay Jennings Date: 9/5/2025 1:41:00 PM I have never had an extreme emotion shake up that didn't lead to a 'therapy spill' and they rarely need revising. Have you ever read 'My Total Pain"? That's just one of them, when I wrote it, I was going thru suicide ideation. Frankly, my poems have provided more therapy than any therapist - none seem as intuitively aware as I am without the degree. I'm glad time and writing as gifted from God, in my view, healed us and also made us deeper people. CayCay Ron VanHooser Date: 9/5/2025 1:06:00 PM CayCay, I think we all have similar memories. This was all too real at the time, and during that period of my life, (the few that have read those poems call it "my blue period") I was hurting, terribly lonely and this just added to it. My way of dealing with such things was to sit down and write. It is only now that I am distanced enough from such events to share them. Thanks CayCay!
