Shallow Graves

Men march forth
Like fodder falling in shallow graves
No one wins a war
No one counts graves
Lift your sword high and mighty
If you are not the undergrowth of the lost
Your victory is to return home
Your Duty however has drastically changed
Teach us, both young and old
Both rich and poor
The value of those lost souls
Buried in shallow graves

Inspired by a friend and his grandmother on Memorial Day
I hope the Grandmother gets to read this and see how small deeds make us all remember!
Thank you

This is very touching, Arthur. In addition to reminding us of our war heroes, I wish the men who returned from war would also spread the word that we need peace if mankind is to survive. Beautifully written! Love, Carolyn

Thank you, and I have good news, there are many who do, often we dont hear of them, so here is an exception, someone who truly cares about making this world a better place. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rom%C3%A9o_Dallaire

This is a hard one to answer. For me it seems like such a waste yet I do not wish to diminish their sacrifice.

Well I think if more soldiers became leaders, we would have less wars. Roméo Dallaire, comes to mind, a Great Canadian, in my humble opinion.

Yes, I had a great uncle used to tell me stories when I was a kid, if we listen , we have so much to learn from elders!

After battles have been fought, lost and won, only remembrance can afford to 'fight' another day!
