Shall I Compare You

Shall I Compare You... ?
Shall I compare you to the sun?
Shining and warm, my dearest one
Shall I compare you to the moon?
Unique and bright, my greatest boon
Shall I compare you to the light?
Illuminating what not of sight
Shall I compare you to the knight?
in honour and dignity willing to fight
Shall I compare you to the Queen?
Admiring how you yourself preen
Shall I compare you to the heart?
You are the love bathing in my heart
Shall I compare you to life?
Of essence, lenient and tough
Shall I compare you to...?
You are beyond my similes and metaphors
You are above what I write of poetry forms
You are my mother
Of words I can add no other
Mother

I think that this is a tender catalogue of comparisons that finally surrenders itself. No metaphor equals a mother's worth.

Dear Besma, a mother is the best human of all. I lost mine 20 years ago, but still recall have oft I would take her for a ride along the quiet sea roads (alas they are quiet no more). But back to your poem, so many comparisons of the highest order. A poem to cherish. Blessings.

A loving mother is beyond all comparison. She is beyond all similes and metaphors. Is your mother still alive to read this beautiful encomium for her by her darling daughter? Each time when I write something about my mother, I regret that I didn't write my admiration for her and read it to her while she was alive. A lovely bouquet of words for your mother, dear Besma

The same for me here, my dear Valsa.. How I wish my mum could read what I wrote of Love, recognition, acknowledgement, gratitude to her.. my mum passed away so many years ago leaving so sweet memories along with a deep ache inside.. May our dear precious mothers rest in the peace of their good deeds and amazing achievements.. Thank you so much my dear poetess for all the beauty you pour into my page and heart. My warmest wishes. Love and hugs.

Dear Besma, O' so tender, lyrical, and overflowing with love. Each comparison glows with heartfelt admiration, yet it’s your closing lines that truly move me: you rise beyond metaphor, capturing the inexpressible beauty of a mother’s presence. Such warmth and devotion and your words linger like sunlight, gently illuminating the heart. Spring Blessings, my Dear Besma, Daniel

Besma reading this touched my heart and of course I thought of my mom also. The love your shared about her and the strengths she had to protect you and love you, and guide you through life, are shared in your tender words. I love this Tribute to your mom. She is the mom that everyone should have and be loved by. by you were so fortunate to have. This one is a favorite and God bless you and your mom. Michael. Hugs...

Dear Michael, so precious are mothers especially the ones who could make a huge difference in their lives as well as their children's.. the ones who succeed in their mission of Life, Light and Love.. Thank you so much for your graceful presence and wonderful feedback! I highly appreciate your great support. Stay always blessed. Best regards

My sweet friend Besma,This is absolutely beautiful—a heartfelt ode that transcends mere words. The way each verse builds upon the last, drawing grand comparisons, only to humbly admit that even the most majestic symbols fall short of describing a mother’s essence, is deeply touching. The final lines are powerful in their simplicity, grounding the poem in pure, unadulterated love. Truly moving! Love and Hugs

Great and precious mothers have built a huge part of who we are.. I owe my mum a lot.. no words would give her all the credit she deserves.. A huge debt I can't pay back.. God bless your amazing soul. Love and hugs.
