Shaft

Soul, can you sing from deep damp of the well, Peering past rounded stone to distant light Pinpointed beyond these claustrophobic Walls, conspiring cave-ins, smothering Something essential? Goblin grief grabbed You, waylaid in terror, bound hand in foot, Tumbling head down, now up, to this abyss – Your song, surface stranded, stares down forlorn. Prisons of failure, missteps and regret Can only detain with your permission. Refuse this abuse, behold slender vine Draping so delicately down tile Not tempting futility; saving strong! Hope may be slender, but grasp, reach and climb!

Lovely profound write, David, and I'm especially liking the quote-worthy final line!
