Shadowy Places

I enter these deep, shadowy places
However, I don’t really have a choice
Reliving flashbacks, their evil faces
Silencing me, abuse, taking my voice

Torture was their way of keeping control
They would resort to inflicting such pain
These type of memories will always roll
By facing these shadows, I always gain

With no more running, I face what is true
So now I can speak and today I can heal
I take these shadows and make something new
Empower myself, walk through what I feel

This is my way to be all I can be
Walk through the shadows, cast away evil
Open doors within so that I can see
All the truth, gently turned into beauty

But, it is true that there is much to be gained from such an experience when viewed from the world that we now live in. I think we learn of the many positive attributes and strengths that we may not have recognized at that time. And we also learn how those experiences have shaped who we are now.
