Notes About The Poem

the Lawless Sonnet rides again

shadows sleep

It stalks the shadows of my sleep
Changes its shape each time I peek
Its eyes a darting dance of light
My dream a nightmare taking flight

Yet I feel a sadness there
As if somehow it is our fear
Never alone when it is near
A binding memory we must share

So dance my puppet sycophant
Reshape the clouds of darkened sight
To meet the need of terror’s flight
Escaping in the shadowed night

Knowing that the day will break
And with it our dark shadows take

I enjoy this very deep, poem of the nightmares that threaten sleep. I hope they go away

Well. I, for one, never get sick of your sycophant poems. Thought you should know, John. For armed with that knowledge,... O, never mind. ~ Giggle, gw

Hello John, I love how you let the creature be both menace and memory, like it’s asking to be understood before morning dissolves it. There’s something honest in that. A haunting piece. Blessings, Daniel
