From the lyrics of Iron Maiden’s

Shadows of the Valley
creatures of the dark pitted dome
scantily clad dryads' hissing drones they rally
without souls—pod like, they roam
throughout forests assiduously marled
awoken from the darkest depth
twigs and branches splayed and snarled
shadows of the valley doyennes adept
distracting sheaves as straws
spewing dirt they bask in
on battered brain gnaws
Taken in is florescent energy
of the soldiers asleep wondering lost
deep in the woods a shadowy synergy
offering oak caskets at any cost
protecting their woodlands and wild
and sacred groves
the lakes are red
the fireweed’s piled
thickened blood broth nauseates
the marshes are fed
man’s liberation it confiscates
deliverance emits rigmaroles confusion
the mind like strobes swirling
they detest the army’s intrusion
Casting a shield of leaves they scatter
to hide thorns on stems
refining unsightly grey matter
hybrid nymphs whittling femes
on the verge of extinction, losing sight
consuming the troops
and extinguishing their light
Set erect are the maiden’s free
planted are the seeds of iron
into the twisting gnarly shadowy tree
chorus ~
Walk through its musky breath
in the shadows of the valley of death
they rape our land
we strap their hands
the now abandoned
