Shadows

Dark shadows linger
As I make my way to the stage
Hate filled whispers pierce my skin
Trying to destroy me from within
The stage lights blind me
As I look into the audience
Strangers from my past fill the auditorium
Shooting daggers with their eyes
I clear my throat & begin to sing
Drowning out all doubt that nothing brings
Before I know it
The audience stands with tears in their eyes
They never heard me sing before today
Dark shadows linger every now & again
Slowly fading, dying within.
