Shadows

My fear is truth pulling me away
Into a deep pool of darkness
From the depths they're reaching up to me

My head above water I only see shadows
Moving around not touching the ground
Stealing the air from my lungs

Coming closer, I swim from them
     Never fast or far enough
     I'm surrounded by those shadows

     Flailing my arms,kicking hard,panicking
Trying to keep from sinking below
     I'm beckoned by those beneath

Can I trust them to show me the way
Or do they have a plan of their own

     My legs weaken,I'm floundering
     Sinking slowly fear becomes nothing
     Struggle is over,shadows can't follow

Life is escaping from this body
At last I'm free from earth's boundries

I feel them reaching up to catch me
Gently they soothe my aching soul
Now I know I've come home
