Notes About The Poem

SHADOW LEAVING THE YUCCA

A shadow lifts
from the yucca’s spine~
slow, deliberate,
as if deciding
the plant no longer needs it.

It walks across the sand,
thin and certain,
leaving the yucca
bright
and strangely
unburdened.
