Notes About The Poem

Shadow Footprint

Shadow footprint of yesterday
When hand-in-hand along the shore
Betrayal waves washed all away
Grains of love lost forevermore

A crimson sunset disappears
Shadow footprint of yesterday
Misty eyes blink to hold back tears
Heart breakers never have a say

Temptress of life without grace
Harvest of hurt hid deep within
Shadow footprint of yesterday
This Heart will never love again

Loneliness endless and wanton
Pain of love left to permeate
Fleeting sorrow not forgotten
Shadow footprint of yesterday

You've written a poem of such lovely melancholy, Susan. Your emotional lost love imagery is poignant and the graceful refrain is hauntingly beautiful. Congratulations on your wonderful placement in Laura's contest. I didn't realize until after I read the poem that it was written with required words for another contest - your poem is so smooth that the mandated words melt seamlessly into the gorgeous tapestry of your write.. Warmest wishes. ~Susan

Never would have known that this was for a contest with actual restraints---as this flows seamlessly and wondrously from image to image, all anchored by the haunting 'shadowy footprint.' Bravo! Remarkable poem! :) gw

Don't know what a quatern is but I figure it might be the 4 lines..."Shadow footprint of yesterday" used in 4 stanzas...Enjoyed it...All the best...
