Shadow

Late nights, Cold and fragile skin, That is when they come to see me, My presence is a feast to them, They follow me everywhere I go, I feel them lurking around the corner, But when I look, There nowhere to be found, They know me better than I do, This is what my shadow is to me, It’s more like a friend, But it never goes away, I close my eyes, But I still see it watching me, Thought maybe it was because of Halloween, As it stays every single day, I come to know it is here to stay, Living rent free, Looking like me, This is what my shadow is to me, Maybe I don’t have to be afraid, But when I turn away, It grabs me and I can’t breathe, I try to leave, But it is apart of me, This is what my shadow is to me.
